PODCASTING

What is a Podcast?

Podcasting is a new way of receiving your favorite audio programs automatically. When a site offers a podcast feed, you can subscribe to the feed (available for free) using podcasting software known as “podcast aggregators” or “podcatchers” (also for free). Then, when any new programs are made available, they will be automatically downloaded to your computer. This saves your having to search for new audio programs. Despite the name, no iPod is required. You can listen to the audio on your computer or download it to any device that plays MP3s.

Podcast IconThis orange icon is the latest universal symbol that indicates when a podcast feed is available. You will soon be seeing this icon in the new version of Microsoft Internet Explorer and Firefox (it will be located in the address bar) whenever a podcast feed is available. Stay tuned for more on this in the months ahead.
